Dynamic Resting Splint

The Saebostretch is a dynamic resting hand splint that help neurologically impaired clients maintain, or improve motion while minimizing joint pain and damage. The revolutionary strapping system holds the wrist, hand and fingers at the desired position Saebostretch is appropriate for patients with minimum-to-moderate tone and soft tissue shortening. The SaeboStretch includes three interchangeable dynamic hand pieces that can accommodate various level of spasticity.

Indications

SaeboStretch is appropriate for patients with minimum-to-moderate tone and soft tissue shortening. It is NOT appropriate for patients with severe tone and contractures. Using a static splint on a dynamic hand can result in joint deformities, contractures and hypermobility.

Sizing Instructions

Measure across the proximal phalanges of digits 2 to 5 just proximal to the PIP joints. Please make sure the fingers are in the adducted position. Do not wrap the tape down the lateral or medial side of the hand. Consider the length of the fingers when deciding between two different sizes (i.e. shorter fingers = smaller size). NOTE: Product must be fitted by a therapist or orthotist.

Features & BenefitsFeatures & Benefits

  • Patented stretch technology with three interchangeable energy-storing hand plates.
  • Proprietary strapping system that utilises key anatomical points of control to maximise control and insure an intimate fit.
  • Malleable wrist and thumb mount allows to further customise the fit.
  • Comfortable non-slip cover and straps to keep fingers in the desired position.
  • Straps sewn to cover to maximise proper positioning and ease of donning. Adjustable thumb system to allow for radial and palmar adduction/abduction.
  • Special padding to help maintain the integrity of the palmer arch.
  • Cover features a zipper closure which can easily be removed for cleaning.

Indications

  • Normally, clients that have suffered a neurological injury, such as stroke, develop increased tightness in the hand known as contractures. If the hand is not maintained in an optimal position, over time the muscles can shorten, leading to contractures. Contractures can become painful and further limit the ability to regain hand function as one recovers.
  • The SaeboStretch is designed for individuals that have experienced a neurological injury such as stroke, head injury, and spinal cord injury.
  • In order to qualify for the Saebo Stretch, clients must exhibit moderate stiffness or less. They must able to open their hand completely flat (with their wrist at neutral) with assistance.

Contraindications

Clients that may not be appropriate for the SaeboStretch typically exhibit one or more of the below:

  • Severe joint deformities of the hand may not be appropriate.
  • Severe tightness in the hand and wrist.
  • Severe swelling in the hand or wrist.
  • Open wounds or compromised skin integrity.

Maximise Function.
Improve Strength & Control.

The SaeboStretch overcomes clinical concerns that can result from traditional hard static splints including joint damage, hypermobility, and contractures. This novel splint uses a revolutionary stretch technology, which allows the fingers to move through flexion caused by associated reactions and increased tone. Following relaxation, the fingers gradually return to the desired resting position.

Comfortable Prolonged Stretching.

The SaeboStretch includes three interchangeable dynamic hand pieces that can accommodate various levels of spasticity.

Contracture.
What You Need to Know.

Contracture is a loss of motion over time due to abnormal shortening of the soft tissue structures spanning one or more joints. These include skin, ligaments, tendon, muscles and joint capsules. Loss of motion in any of the structures restricts joint mobility leading to pain, stiffness and eventually contracture.

Spasticity.
What is it and how does
it affect your recovery?

Spasticity is a neuromuscular condition in which muscles are continuously contracted. The stiff or rigid muscles inhibit normal activity, including walking, movement, and speech. It can be caused by lesions in the brain or spinal cord.

SaeboStretch - A Dynamic Resting Hand Splint - Frequently Asked Questions

Jack's Arm update #2

Co-Founder of Saebo, Henry Hoffman, Discusses the SaeboStretch

The Saebo Story

In 2001...
Two occupational therapists had one simple, but powerful goal - to provide neurological clients access to transformative and life changing products.

At the time, treatment options for improving arm and hand function were limited. The technology that did exist was expensive and inaccessible for home use. With inadequate therapy options often leading to unfavourable outcomes, health professionals routinely told their clients that they have "reached a plateau" or "no further gains can be made". The founders believed that it was not the clients who had plateaued, but rather their treatment options had plateaued.

Saebo's commitment - "No Plateau in Sight" - was inspired by this mentality; and the accessible, revolutionary solutions began.

Saebo's revolutionary product offering was based on the latest advances in rehabilitation research. From the SaeboFlex which allows clients to incorporate their hand functionally in therapy or at home, to the SaeboMAS, an unweighting device used to assist the arm during daily living tasks and exercise training, "innovation" and "affordability" can now be used in the same sentence.

Over the last ten years, Saebo has grown into a leading global provider of rehabilitative products created through the unrelenting leadership and the strong network of clinicians around the world. As we celebrate our history and helping more than 100,000 clients regain function, we are growing this commitment to affordability and accessibility even further by making our newest, most innovative products more accessible than ever.
