MARLENA KLAIC
Occupational Therapist

Topic: MAXIMISING UPPER LIMB FUNCTION USING EMERGING TECHNOLOGY - THE HAND HUB

Marlena is an occupational therapist with extensive clinical experience in working with people with brain impairment stemming from stroke, traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions. Currently working as the research leader in Occupational Therapy at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Marlena has a special interest in translational research and supporting clinicians to implement evidence into practice. She is completing her PhD titled “Enhancing the uptake of EBP with allied health clinicians”.


DEBBIE VERIKIOS
Occupational Therapist

Topic: NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN A CLINICAL PRACTICE

Debbie is the OT Senior Clinician for Trauma Rehabilitation across Barwon Health with 25 years experience in the field - traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multi trauma, Driving Assessments. Debbie was introduced to Saebo upper limb therapy training 5 years ago and in that time the department has acquired Saebo equipment and trained multiple OTs across all programs. In 2016 Debbie and Larissa published a research article titled “Patient and therapist experiences of the SaeboFlex: A pilot study” in Occupational Therapy International (with Larissa as principal researcher).


LARISSA ANDRISKE
Occupational Therapist

Topic: CLIENT EXPERIENCE USING SAEBO IN ADULTS & PAEDIATRICS

Larissa has worked in neuro- rehabilitation with both paediatric and adult clients for more than 25 years. Having worked in various facilities in the U.S. for 8 years Larissa returned to Australia, working for Scope then Barwon Health. In 2009 Larissa returned to the US for 5 day training in the use of the SaeboFlex, followed by visits to facilities using the SaeboFlex to see how they integrated them into therapy. Barwon Health recently acquired SaeboReJoyce and SaeboMAS for use in the inpatient and outpatient facilities. 

The department is now working towards implementing the Hand Hub program at Barwon Health in the near future for both adult and young clients.
